Funny how things turn out. First I was psyched that there was a crack of sunlight when I went for my 8:30pm swim. I also noted that it was the first time that it was bright enough to SEE the Hudson River while I walked to the pool, and that I’ll be training right next to the river until the day I take the plunge into that same river.

But soon after I took this photo all desire to swim escaped me. Maybe it’s the 1.5 hours of Bikram I’ve been doing every morning, or maybe it’s the launch of Gilt City that just all caught up to me. Swim training is my favorite but I just did. not. want. to swim today. Even when I got to poolside I didn’t want to go in the water.

But like I said, funny how things turn out. I ended up having a GREAT training session because something in my brain clicked and I completely understood what the coaches were telling me. As a result I noticed an improvement in my strokes. I entered the pool thinking I was gonna drown doing this tri and I left the pool super excited about the prospects of actually being able to do this. And I guess that’s the thing about tris and marathons, the moment you doubt yourself, you prove yourself wrong. And that’s the rewarding part; the part where you’re the only one holding yourself back and you’re the only one pushing you forward.
