High Fives to Bryce and I!!
First of all, I kinda didn’t want to run today. For the past 2 days I’ve actually been dreading leaving the office. Even though I want to work out, because it’s so hot and humid, I just don’t want to go outside.
The temperature this evening was at a steady real feel of 86 with humidity of 48% at the time I left my office to head over to Central Park.
I knew that I had to get out there no matter what because I haven’t been training in heat and humidity this year and my body is not used to it. July 18 is most likely going to be hot and humid, and experience from last summer proves that I need to condition my body to tolerate summer temperatures.
Symon had some words of encouragement for getting me to the park which went something like, “you don’t want to suck monkey balls” and “get out there and run like the wind.” So after deciding that I didn’t want to suck monkey balls on race day, I went to the park and ran like the wind.
I started out with a pretty solid pace. I was feeling comfortable and I knew it was a sustainable pace, but I wasn’t slacking either. Bryce stopped in the beginning to go pee and said that he’d catch up. I thought in my mind, “yeah right, sucka.” After the northern hills, I decided to slow down. I knew Bryce was behind me and there was no way he was gonna catch up. As I stop at a water fountain around mile 4-ish, I see the sucker! Bryce Tom totally impressed me tonight and I am so proud of him for running more than he even imagined that he could. I always knew he could do it and I’m just glad that he now knows that he can do it. On top of it all, he ran the whole thing without stopping. Very impressive. High fives to Bryce!
After Bryce and I caught up, we ran the remaining 3 miles together. I like having a running partner because it helps me pace and push myself. I like the accountability. I had a girl in front of me who served as my pusher. I didn’t let myself trail too far behind her and sometimes even over took her. Bryce was my pace maker as he hung out behind me. All I knew was that there was no way I was gonna let him get in front, and that if he did that meant I had to go harder.
At the end of our run, high fives were handed out all around. My watch said 1h45s for 6 miles and I was happy with that. But after mapping it, because the coach made us run a little extra to go pass race day’s finish line, turns out we did 6.5 miles and that take me even more ecstatic!
